Job Description

This position is located within the Construction Branch for the Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division (EFLHD), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in Ashburn, Virginia; Sevierville, Tennessee; or Tupelo, Mississippi. The Construction Control Inspector is responsible for the physical construction of federal projects under the jurisdiction of Eastern Federal Lands.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: You will be required to complete a background/security investigation and meet preliminary requirements prior to onboarding. TIME-IN-GRADE: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: Current Federal employees and non-competitive selectees may need to complete a probationary period (unless already completed). DEU REQUIREMENTS: Applicants selected under delegated examining procedures may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed). GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CARD: This position involves travel. A government contractor-issued travel card will be issued and must be retained for official business only. PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: The work requires extensive standing, walking, climbing, bending, and carrying of various items (equipment, etc.). The incumbent is exposed to varying weather conditions and terrain conditions. The work is highly stressful because of the level of responsibility and risk of failure. The office management work is accomplished in an office setting in a trailer-type building on-site at the project location. Most of the work is performed outdoors where temperatures are quite often extreme. SHIFTS: The incumbent must be available at all times, including off-duty hours, particularly throughout contractor multi-shift periods including weekends as dictated by the contractor's work schedule. DRIVER'S LICENSE: You must have a valid state driver’s license, with a safe driving record, and be fully qualified to operate a government owned vehicle. VEHICLE OPERATION: You will be required to operate motor vehicles in the performance of duties and will be completely responsible for their safe operation in compliance with applicable FHWA, federal, state, county, municipal or local laws and regulations. You will be responsible for reporting all accidents in accordance with regulations contained in applicable FHWA Instructions. TELEWORK: Telework for this position is typically only allowed in emergency situations. If approved, you will be required to sign a telework agreement detailing agency telework policy requirements, working conditions, and expectations for the position.
