This position is located in the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Federal Lands Highway (FLH) Division, and supports the Division as a construction project engineer responsible for managing moderately-complex construction projects or multiple smaller construction projects. The projects occur primarily on Federal Lands managed by other Federal agencies such as the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service and include a multi-state area.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: If you are not a current Federal employee, you will be required to complete a background/security investigation and meet preliminary requirements prior to onboarding. PCS/RELOCATION/RECRUITMENT: Permanent Change of Station (PCS), Relocation, and Recruitment Incentive authorization varies by position/selection and a service agreement may be required. GOVERNMENT TRAVEL CARD: This position involves travel. A government contractor-issued travel card will be issued and must be retained for official business only. PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Inspection work is accomplished at construction sites where the employee may be exposed to high noise levels, hazardous chemicals, radiation, and varying weather and terrain conditions. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: Applicants may be required to successfully complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed). TELEWORK ELIGIBILITY: Telework for this position is typically only allowed in emergency situations and for some construction assignments that are conducive to telework.
